Scott Johnson is a two-time Olympian, winning the gold medal in 1984 and being nominated Olympic team captain in 1988. While Johnson would likely cite Olympic gold as his career highlight, his years in gymnastics are marked with many accomplishments.
Scott began his professional gymnastics career competing for the University of Nebraska, where he was part of the team that won five consecutive NCAA titles, four during his tenure. As a Husker, Scott brought pride to his school by earning the All-American title eleven times. Scott was a major player for the US National team throughout most of the 1980s. Scott was a member of the 1984 USA men’s gymnastics team, the “Boys of Summer” as they were called, who thrilled the world as they captured the gold medal victory. This historic win marked the first American gold medal in eight decades of gymnastics competition and the first team medal of any kind since the early 1930s.
